Boy Scouts Troop 1160

Boy Scouts Troop 1160 offers a year-round adventure-based program designed to offer and encourage effective character, citizenship, and fitness training for boys age 11-17. We strive to provide the scouts with new and memorable experiences not found in other organizations. In addition to camping, Scouts and adult leaders enjoy activities such as rock-climbing and rappelling, canoeing, target-shooting, and more while accommodating the needs of today’s busy families.

Our Troop’s History

Located and sponsored by New Horizons Church of the Nazarene, the Boy Scout Troop was founded in 2002, followed by the Cub Scout Pack in 2004. In the last 20+ years, our numbers have grown to include youth and families from Belton, Raymore, Peculiar, and Grandview.

Community service and involvement is a cornerstone for our unit, believing that it is an important part to help make them stronger. We have led flag and honor guard ceremonies, volunteer at fairs, assist with the younger Cub Scouts, and provide trail cleanups. It is wonderful to see how much our regular service hours and larger Eagle projects have helped local schools, parks, churches, and charities.

Since the Troop was chartered, we are proud to have helped many boys and young men grow into leaders of the community. Along with achieving the top rank of Eagle, many of our members also belong to the Scout honor programs of Order of the ArrowMic-O-Say, and completed the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT).

The troop meets Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm at the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene or Belton New Horizons Church of the Nazarene – Home | Facebook located at 17200 Chestnut Dr, Belton, MO 64012.

Scout Events

We regularly camp out, and look forward each year to long term camping events like summer camp at Bartle and Klondike Derby / Trappers Rendevous in the winter. Providing new experiences for our scouts is an important part of our troop. We are always striving to find new experiences for the scouts. Our most recent events have taken us rock climbing, …..    Every year we try to squeeze in wilderness survival camping, hiking, biking, canoeing, rock climbing,  outdoor cooking competitions, rifle and shotgun shooting events, and orienteering.

Merit Badges

Merit badges are awards earned by Scouts, based on activities within an area of study by completing a list of periodically updated requirements. The purpose of the merit badge program is to allow Scouts to examine subjects to determine if they would like to further pursue them as a career or a vocation. Merit badges can be worked on individually, as a group, at scout camps, and during Merit Badge Academies that are offered each year.

Every year, our Troop strives to keep things exciting by completing new merit badges including wilderness survival camping, hiking, biking, canoeing, woodworking, fire safety, first aid, archery, shooting sports, orienteering, or other interests that the Patrols want to complete.
